Our recent winter getaway to Borovets was the perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and incredible value. It’s a destination that truly offers something for everyone, whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, or with friends.

We stayed at the Iglika Hotel on a half-board basis for the week. The hotel was comfortable, well-located, and excellent value for money. Although half board gave us great flexibility, we often chose to eat out at various local restaurants simply because it was so affordable and there was so much choice.

For the first two days, we had ski lessons with Lubo from Snowmasters, who was absolutely amazing. His patience, expertise, and friendly approach made learning enjoyable and confidence-boosting. By day three, we felt confident enough to ski on our own, which was a great feeling and really showed how effective the lessons had been.

The hotel facilities were another big plus. Iglika Hotel has a swimming pool and spa, which we made good use of during our stay. It was spotlessly clean and the perfect way to relax after a day on the slopes.

Away from skiing, we took a trip to Samokov and enjoyed ice skating in the park, which was great fun and ideal for families. The resort also offers plenty of other winter activities, including horse riding, snowmobile experiences, and husky rides, making it easy to mix up your itinerary.

One of my personal highlights was a visit to Rila Spa, where I enjoyed an outstanding full-body massage. It was incredibly relaxing and a must-do if you’re visiting the area.

Food and entertainment in Borovets didn’t disappoint. We ate at The Black Cat, where we enjoyed a fabulous evening with an Elvis tribute band – great food, a lively atmosphere, and a really memorable night. We also dined at The Chinese Moon, which was delicious and known for its huge portions and excellent value.

Spending New Year’s Eve in Borovets was unforgettable. The fireworks were absolutely amazing and really added to the excitement, creating a fantastic atmosphere and a wonderful way to welcome the New Year.

Overall, Borovets proved to be very affordable, family-friendly, and full of memorable experiences. From skiing and skating to spa days, winter adventures, and New Year celebrations, it’s a destination I’d happily recommend and return to.
